Abstract

Various lasers used for oral soft tissue procedures have specific parameters for a wide range of operations. Laser tissue interaction is a photothermal effect. The biologic effect depends on operating parameters, for example, emission wavelength, power, emission mode, pulse duration, energy/pulse, energy density, exposure duration, total energy and tissue characteristics. Our review covers current knowledge of laser parameters, laser–tissue interaction and safety and effectiveness scientific support.
