Abstract

Industrial lasers have been successfully cutting, welding, drilling, heat-treating, etc., for many years. Volumes have been written about the associated methods, process rates, and quality. This data has been collected at corporate research laboratories, technology centers, laser job shops, and, of course, laser manufacturers. Most of this has been done with relatively loose knowledge about details of the laser beam emanating from high-power industrial lasers.
