Abstract

In this work, we synthesised necklace shaped gold-silver alloy nanoparticles from the mixture of individual nano colloidal solutions of gold and silver using a laser induced method. Gold and silver nanoparticles were separately synthesised by laser ablation of respective targets in DI water by a 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser. The alloy nanoparticles were formed as result of laser induced heating of the mixture of individual gold and silver nano colloidal solutions at a laser wavelength of 532 nm. The UV-Visible spectroscopy was used to confirm the formation of gold-silver alloy nanoparticles. Using TEM analysis the special structure of the alloy nanoparticle was analysed. The stability of the alloy nanoparticle was compared with that of silver and gold nanoparticles, using zeta potential analysis. The electrostatic stability of silver nanoparticles was found to be enhanced when alloyed with gold nanoparticles.
