Abstract

The resonance ionization spectrometry (RIS) signal from Nd was recorded between 5800 and 6000 A using four different dye-laser line widths, ranging from 4–6 to <0.1 A FWHM; a two-color experiment was also carried out. The RIS spectra obtained were analyzed to identify as many Nd transitions as possible. It was found that the number of processes available for Nd in a three-photon ionization process is a function of the line width of the laser.
