Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explain the concept of sphere in Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition and to analyze some of the problems that emerge when these spheres are treated as separated. What it is aimed to be proved is the existence, in an implicit way, of the supremacy of the “sphere of right” over the “sphere of love” and the “sphere of solidarity” in the author’s theory. This, because the sphere of right provides a universal criterion used not only in that area but in all of them. With the help of Habermas’ work on right, the necessary relationship between the spheres of recognition will be discussed in Honneth’s theory. For the line of argument, hypothetical case examples will be used.
