Abstract

The state terrorism has left traumatic traces in our Latin American societies. Fernando Butazzoni’s novel (2014) Las cenizas del cóndor «The ashes of the condor», from its title in Spanish], based on real events, allow us to inquire about survival subjective mechanisms and the possibilities of elaboration of individual and collective traumas, even though when justice acquisition and complete knowledge of the true turn out to be whisked away. The events of recent history question psychoanalysis about some aspects of the human condition, especially whether it is possible to go beyond the desire for revenge and avoid perpetuation of latent violence.
