Abstract

It is shown that one-nucleon-loop calculations of the vacuum contributions to the effective potential for hadronic field theories with point nucleon fields are not compatible with large-${\mathrm{N}}_{\mathrm{c}}$ QCD. One expects that nucleon substructure will lead to a suppression of such effects of at least order ${\mathrm{N}}_{\mathrm{c}}^{1\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}\mathrm{d}}$, where d is the dimension of space-time. Issues of the self-consistency of the large-${\mathrm{N}}_{\mathrm{c}}$ QCD are discussed.
