Abstract
This chapter details the inflammatory reaction patterns in mucosal biopsy specimens and mucosal resection specimens of the large intestine. The large intestine is the site of the greatest range of inflammatory reaction patterns in the gastrointestinal tract, demonstrating the full spectrum of those presented in Chap. 1. Causes for each inflammatory pattern and clues to each cause are discussed. Particular attention is given to inflammatory bowel disease and the range of patterns it may manifest.
