Abstract
Abstract An extremum principle for large deformations of rigid-plastic continua which is an extension of the principle by Tamuzh is presented. Both piecewise linear and smooth yield conditions are considered. A specialization of the principle for rod structures is given and a numerical procedure is developed for determining the rigid-plastic response of structures by solving a series of quadratic programming problems. Results presented show satisfactory agreement with both numerical solutions based on elastic plastic models of the material and experimental investigations.
