Abstract

Large cadaveric bone grafts or allografts have been used for the treatment of bone loss for many years. The first recorded large bone allograft was performed by Maceuen in 1881 for bone loss.’ The role of allografts In the treatment of extremity tumors has now been defined and there has been a large experience of the use of allografts in humans.?-’ Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor and this disease is frequently treated using large bone allografts. In this revjew article, the types of allografts will be defined and their uses outlined. The advantages and disadvantages of allografts will be presented in the light of recent experience.
