Abstract

The design concept, geometry, simulated and measured results of a large-area RFID reader antenna for the smart shelf at UHF are presented. The antenna is implemented by cascading two layers of microstrip lines and being terminated with a matched load. The proposed antenna can produce a uniform magnetic field even though the size of the antenna is large. It has a low far-field gain and adaptability of its dimension as per requirement. These properties make the antenna suitable for smart shelf RFID readers.
