Abstract

Design Case report. Method A 32-year-old lady with a large complex ovarian cyst was treated by laparoscopic oöphorectomy. The cyst was removed intact, utilizing an impermeable bag retrieval system. The cyst proved to be malignant and laparoscopic surgical staging was performed as a second procedure. Conclusion The majority of ovarian cysts in younger women will be benign and should be removed laparoscopically to reduce morbidity. The routine use of an impermeable bag retrieval system reduces the risk of tumour spillage into the peritoneal cavity when unexpected malignancy occurs. We report the first instance of laparoscopic management of a malignant granulosa cell tumour found coincidentally in a dermoid cyst.
