Abstract

Situs inversus is an uncommon anatomical variant characterized by transposition of the internal organs. The frequency of cholelithiasis in such patients is similar to that of the normal population. A young woman with situs inversus totalis with symptomatic gallbladder stones underwent a successful laparoscopic cholecystectomy and intraoperative cholangiogram using a mirror-image approach. Her postoperative recovery was uneventful. A review of 21 further cases in the medical literature is presented to address the feasibility of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in situs inversus.
