Abstract

Three new lanthanide coordination polymers based on 4,4′-disulfo-[1,1′-diphenyl]-2,2′-dicarboxylate acid (H4DSDC) have been synthesized, namely {[Ln4(DSDC)1.5(COO)2(OH)4(H2O)7]∙10H2O}n (Ln = Tb, Eu or Sm), which are characterized to be isostructural. The cubic [Ln4(μ3-OH)4] species in these complexes are connected to adjacent one through coordination bridging from a pair of formate groups to generate double-cubane-shaped moieties as secondary building units, which are linked by tetraanionic DSDC4− ligands to form a 3D framework structure featuring (312.432.540.633.72.8)(32.43.5)3 topology. The Tb(III) complex proves to be a highly selective and sensitive turn-off fluorescent sensor for Fe3+ ion.
