Abstract

In this opening chapter, we share with you our overlapping and distinct reasons for writing this book and for engaging in such a challenging, imaginative, eclectic, critical, deeply personal as well as an emotional dialogue, on a topic that frustrates, inspires, intrigues and troubles us. The book is the outcome of a kind of pilgrimage involving encounters with an eclectic body of people and literature on transformation and transformative lifelong learning as well as adult and higher education. And of an effort to think afresh and challenge some old binaries, between feeling and cognition, the sacred and the social, conscious and unconscious life, self and other.
