Abstract
This chapter explains how some outstanding individuals have shaped landscape architectural education in Hungary. Their combined efforts have ultimately led government to establish the Institute of Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning and Garden Art at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences. It is the only place in Hungary to study landscape architecture. Its educational history dates back more than 100 years and has functioned as an independent university programme since 1963. As a comprehensive, independent unit, the Institute covers the entire landscape education spectrum, offering programmes at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels, in Hungarian and English languages, in an integrated manner. Both ECLAS and IFLA Europe consider the education offered exemplary. The quality, rating and standards of the Faculty have been recognised by the European Division of the International Federation of Landscape Architects.
