Abstract
This chapter shows the ways in which the social economy and solidarity is at the heart of inclusive growth and sustainable economy. It examines how the social and solidarity economy contributes to making economic growth more inclusive to facilitate sustainability, while allowing wider participation and sharing the fruits of growth. The chapter focuses on the fundamentals of the social economy and solidarity in terms of employment for the greatest number. This is followed by a discussion on social protection as heritage history of the social and solidarity economy. The chapter introduces evolving forms of commitment to social and solidarity economy that fight against poverty. Finally, it provides an analysis of the social and solidarity economy as an expression of the need for new paradigms of development. Keywords:social economy; solidarity
