Abstract
Historical, traditional and constitutional considerations are inseparable from any analysis regarding the holding of land in the Kingdom of Tonga, which has quite unique systems both of governance and of land tenure. In this paper, the author, who recently completed a three month volunteer assignment in Tonga, sponsored by AESOP (Australian Expert Service Overseas Program) attempts to present a simplified overview of the current situation.
