Abstract
The paper describes the implementation of a microprocessor-based communications interface suitable for small and medium-sized distributed industrial control systems. The main aims in the design were availability of components and low cost. Despite this, the design uses high-performance protocols such as IEEE 802. The board has been designed to relieve a central processor of communication tasks. A dual-port RAM is used to communicate with both processors.
