Abstract

The laminar flow of a polar fluid in an annulus with porous walls has been considered in order to study the effect of fluid removal and injection on the flow field. Assuming the cross-flowReynolds number to be small, the expressions for axial velocity and the azimuthal component of total angular velocity have been obtained. Graphs have been drawn to show the effects of the variation of the cross-flowReynolds numberRp and the parameterL, on the velocity and total angular velocity. Back flow is present near the inner cylinder forRp = 0.1, while it is found near the outer cylinder forRp = −0.1. The results have been compared with the corresponding results for aNewtonian fluid.
