Abstract

Background: Treatment of cow's milk allergic (CMA) infants with an extensively hydrolyzed casein formula (EHCF) supplemented with the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) accelerates tolerance to cow's milk. The mechanistic basis for this effect is not known. We tested the hypothesis that it is attributable, at least in part, to an influence of this dietary intervention on the composition of the gut microbiota.
