Abstract
1. 1. An investigation of the differentiation of lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH) and citrate synthetase (CS) in red and white muscles from chicks was made. The differentiations were compared with the ontogeny of thermoregulation. 2. 2. Significant correlations were found between (a) age and CS activities in both muscle types, LDH activity in white muscle and LDH/CS activity ratio in white muscle and (b) weight and CS activity in red muscle, LDH activities in both types and LDH/CS activity ratios in both types. 3. 3. A close parallel was found between changes in enzyme activities and the development of thermoregulation.
