Abstract

Since the last Labour government, the world has changed dramatically and Britain's defence, and security emphasis accordingly. The Labour Party has assessed this shifting situation during its period in opposition and produced a policy based on international cooperation, consensus and a firm backing of the defence industry. In a presentation given before the General Election while Labour Party spokesman on defence, Dr David Clark here sets out his party's defence policy, highlighting the emphasis, on building national consensus in defence and instituting a strategic defence review looking to the looking‐term to restore stability and cohesion to the armed forces and British defence planning.
