Abstract

Abstract Previous laboratory and field studies have indicated that the residual activity of carbofuran is lengthened when the insecticide is placed in the soil near the roots in comparison to a paddy water broadcast treatment. In a search for additional insecticides which are effective as a root-zone application insecticides were applied at a 0.5 kg ai/ha rate. Granules were placed in genatin capsules and inserted into the root zone of 35 day-old plants at the IRRI Laboratory in Manila. Ten insects were placed on each of four replications at 1, 7 and 14 days after treatment (DT). Mortality was recorded 48 hr after placing the insects on the plants. Mortality values were adjusted using Abbott’s formula.
