Abstract

The image of Saint Mary of the Snows is a sculpture for dress that receives worship in the parish of Saint Isidore of Seville (Spain). Regarding its origin and dating, very different hypotheses have been defended; some authors date it to the 17th century; others, however, place it in the years after the reconquest of the city by King Ferdinand III (13th century), including it within the group of the so-called "fernandine” images. Its recent intervention have contributed and/or confirmed numerous relevant data on its material history. The most outstanding would be the confirmation that the current seated posture is not original, but was the result of an intentional change, undertaken in 1783 by the sculptor José Tiburcio González, along with the renovation of the trousseau that complements it.
