Abstract

This paper presents a description and an analysis of the current price regulation system of bottled Liquefied Petroleum Gas in Spain. Our goal has been to analyze to what extent the regulation is associated with the difficulties of business survival that the sector is going through. We also tried to see if the regulation mechanism meets its objectives of promoting competition and transmission of production costs to final consumers. The results of our study indicate that opportunities for improve the price regulation system exist. However, the current regulation should contribute decisively to a scenario of increased competition and liberalization of prices in the short term.
