Abstract
This paper undertakes a theoretical review of the main interpretations made by the social and human sciences on the Chilean popular revolt of 2019-2020 and its antecedents framed in a prolonged sociopolitical crisis. To this end, the paper is structured in four sections. First, a contextual characterization of the popular revolt is carried out, placing it as an exceptional phenomenon in recent history. Second, a review of early analyzes (1997-2005) is presented, in which the literature begins to account for social tensions and problems. Third, a review of the analyzes framed in the appearance of social conflict in Chile in the period 2011-2018 is performed to, finally, identify the readings specifically focused on the 2019-2020 revolt. The research was based on the review of 135 books, essays, academic articles and reports, in addition to a score of press releases and reports. From this, a grouping process was conducted around the central theses presented by the authors. This work allows us to identify three aspects: 1) the central nodes of analytical proposals on the phenomenon in each period, 2) the analytical continuities and discontinuities between periods, and 3) the central nodes of the current debate. This proposal combines the presentation of interpretations, together with the characterization of events and antecedents that allow the contextual framing of the discussions.
