Abstract

SummaryTwo cases of macroglobulinemia are described. One is a benign form of lympho-plasmatocytary reticulosis occurring in a 57 years old woman. For many years, this disease was well tolerated despite the tremendous amount of abnormal globulins found in the serum : total protein 14 g p. cent with 35 to 45 p. cent of globulins. With ultracentrifugation, it was shown that 41 p. cent of globulins were macroglobulins (Sf : 24 and 19). The other case is a malignant, rapidly fatal form observed in a 72 years old man, suffering from anemia, panmyelophtysis and thrombosis of the central retinal veins on both sides; 50 g of slow gamma-globulin were found in the serum of this patient. The bone-marrow was uniformly invaded with plasmatocytes, like lymphocytes, suggesting the picture of chronic lymphadenosis. These two cases illustrate the two peculiar pictures of histio-plasmatocytary reticulose : a benign, well tolerated form, or a more serious form, resembling leukemia. The correlations between these lympho-plasmat...
