Abstract
The images are an essential part of contemporary visual culture. His way of signifying is very different from the language statements, so it is difficult to verbalize their meaning. The article analyzes the different theoretical frameworks that the photographic images consider as an object of scientific study. It focuses specifically on the process of reading the photographs, which give rise to content analysis. It proposes a model of reading-oriented photographic images documentary representation and retrieval of information. The necessary skills are identified, the factors involved and semantic operations carried out during the reading of the photographs. The established model is applied to the reading of documentary photography Robert Doisneau Le baiser de l'Hôtel de Ville (1950).

Las imágenes constituyen el paisaje cotidiano de nuestras vidas. Nos permiten orientarnos en el espacio y en el tiempo, ayudan a definir nuestro comportamiento y nuestras actitudes y dan forma a nuestras aspiraciones. Se considera que las imágenes fotográficas son un objeto de estudio característicamente interdisciplinar, que puede ser abordado desde marcos teóricos y referentes científicos muy distintos, pero complementarios, entre los que destacan los siguientes: El enfoque historiográfico. El enfoque semiótico-semiológico ha dado lugar a una amplia y rica bibliografía sobre la comunicación visual, centrada en el estudio del signo icónico, los modos de producción de sus discursos, sus estrategias comunicativas y los procesos de significación y atribución de sentido de las imágenes. Este artículo complementa y amplia el enfoque de estos textos y se centra, de forma específica, en la fase de lectura, situada en la base de los procesos documentales que se llevan a cabo en los sistemas de información
