Abstract
Many of the studies into healthcare quality performed in Spain are presented at the Annual Congress of the Spanish Society of Healthcare Quality. This Congress is, therefore, an excellent platform to know the work being done in R&D in healthcare quality. At the XXII Congress of the Spanish Society of Quality of Healthcare, 542 proposals for scientific studies were received and 536 (98.8%) were accepted: 227 as oral communications (43% of the proposals received) and 309 as poster presentations (57% of the proposals received). The mean score of oral communications was significantly higher than that of poster communications (6.6 points versus 5.1 points, respectively; p < 0.001). The positive trend observed in the Congress held in 2000 in terms of studies and participants was maintained. The Congress increases the number of research studies performed; although this number decreased the following year, it shows a tendency to remain stable. The autonomous communities that each year present the greatest number of studies are Catalonia, Madrid, Murcia, the Basque Country and Andalusia. When the population of each autonomous community is taken into account, the most productive are La Rioja, Cantabria and Navarre.
