Abstract
The article explains the pedagogical purposes of the Free Teaching Institution, its intentions to renew the pedagogy ot its time, especially in primary and secondary education. It also refers to its furious detractors, who finally put an end to all its innovations. In the second part, the fundamental ideas of the most important Leonese authros of the Institution are explained, alluding to the heterodosy of their thought and their common desire to cultivate the idea of tolerance, as well as their particualr concept of religion.
