Abstract

The Italo-German intervention was determining in the military defeat of the Spanish Republic in the Basque Country. In fact, the Basque Country was defeated because of the overwhelming superiority of the aviation and the artillery sent from Italy and Germany. In this article, it is explained how the combined action of both the artillery and the aviation, followed by the frontal assault performed by the pro-Franco infantry, will be determining in the overcoming of the Basque resistance, and that, therefore, without the decisive aid of Germany and Italy, the war in Euskadi would have been of totally different nature and its result, uncertain.
