Abstract
A fitting method applicable with a spreadsheet program has been developed for data following a quasi-linear function of the type : y = a + b.f(t/c). The method allows to determine the uncertainties on the predictions which are based on this fitting. uncertainties on the predictions which are based on this fitting. It is shown that a domain of application is the determination of final consolidation settlements, where the method implies a soil behaviour strictly equivalent to Asaoka's method. However it has two advantages : first the ability to quantify the uncertainties; second avoiding the need for strictly equal time intervals between the settlement measurements. The method is illustrated on an abutment embankment case on la Maurienne A 43 motorway ; it is shown how the concept of characteristic value recommended by Eurocode 7 « Geotechnical design » can be applied thanks to the method.
