Abstract
The present study aims at substantiating the identity of Countess Ermengarde, who donated most of her possessions — more specifically her estate and castle at Waremme in the Hesbaye — to the Church of Liège in 1078. Ermengarde, who belonged to the Grandpré lineage in Champagne, was the widow of Count Gozelon de Rochefort, who died in 1064. The documentary file, now entirely published, is here scrutinized so as to bring out new information about the economic, political and cultural history of Western Europe ad the ende of 11th century.
