Abstract

Requests for Housing - The Case of Saint Priest in the Rhone. East of the city of Lyons. the town of Saint Priest is a perfect example of a suburb. Its public housing constitutes a third of the city's buildings. The major objective of the research on which this article is based is to describe the different type of requests for housing sent to the public housing authority, the OPHLM, between 1987 and 1991. By presenting a systematic analysis of the great diversity of those requesting housing, this study's intention is also to question the management of public housing policy concerning its evolution and the new problems it has to address. This work is, in a larger perspective, part of the research program that the "Groupe de Recherche sur la Socialisation," a sociology research laboratory of the CNRS and the University Lumière-Lyon 2, has been pursuing for some time now on the relationship between space and socialization.
