Abstract

Identified with women and with the private sphere by Western and modern thought, the care has been the subject of a centuries-old devaluation, equal to the devaluation of the feminine and parallel to the construction of the hegemonic figure of the male and individualistic subject. Care becomes the place par excellence of the feminine, altruistic and sacrificial subject that occupies the negative polarity between public/private, masculine/feminine, reason/sentiment. Being again fashionable the care means rethinking the subject, placing oneself critically both towards the (masculine) paradigm of autonomous and sovereign subject, and towards the figure of the altruistic and oblative (feminine) subject, to affirm the idea of a subject in connection with someone: aware of the their own vulnerability and the constitutive nature of the reciprocal bond with the other. This requires not only to promote a trespassing of care outside the private sphere and to question the emotions that motivate care, but also and above all to rethink it as a value and a practice capable of inaugurating a new lifestyle.
