Abstract

Patients undergoing major orthopedic surgery represent a group with a particularly high risk for VTE, and routine thromboprophylaxis has been the standard of care for 20 years. Elastic bandages or good medical compression stockings are used, not alone, but in association with anticoagulant thromboprophylaxis; these devices also reduce oedema due to lower limbs stasis.
