Abstract
The author concludes that artificial pneumothorax is the most effective means of combating tuberculosis of the lungs; this, without derogation of accepted rest and dietetic measures. Discussing the propriety of doing a pneumothorax in the presence of bilateral pulmonary disease, he says that all bilateral cases were once unilateral, and stresses the need of early recognition of unilateral disease. Too much space, it would appear, is devoted to the subject of bilateral lung collapse; too much, in that the procedure is dignified by the attention given it, beyond its deserts. Oleothorax, thoracoplasty, phrenicotomy and division of adhesions according to Jacobaeus' method are well discussed. The material that serves as a base of the theses presented amounts to about 100 cases. The subject is excellently worked up and it is evident that Kindberg is well acquainted with it.
