Abstract

This essay examines rhetorical argumentation in four of Quevedo’s outstanding political works: Grandes anales de quince dias, Mundo caduco y desvarios de la edad, Politica de Dios and Primera parte de la vida de Marco Bruto. The wealth of argumentative resources that he uses outstrips the limits of traditional rhetorical probationes and displays to the full his literary talent when it comes to applying his command of wit and style with a view to directing his historical, biblical and literary sources to the intention and the ideology of his discourse.
