Abstract

A series of hexa-dentate aminopheol ligands and their titanium and zirconium complexes were synthesized and Ring-opening Polymerization (ROP) of e-caprolactone (e-CL) and L-lactide (L-LA) by these metal complexes has been successfully studied. According to the experiment result, the chelate effect of ligands influenced the polymerization activity of the catalysts for ROP of e-CL and L-LA. For Ti complexes, the complex with two 2-fluorobenzyl groups owns the greatest catalytic activity for CL and LA polymerization. For Zr complexes, 2-(dimethylamino)benzyl group is the most effective for CL polymerization and 2-methoxybenzyl group is the most efficient for LA polymerization. Polymerization studies indicate that the chelate effect by pendent atoms dramatically affects the catalytic activity of metal center.
