Abstract

In this paper we refer to the presence of Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy on the Macedonian literary scene of the 19th century. The famous writer and thinker was especially respected among highly educated Macedonian intellectuals, who were reading as well as reviewing his works. The most famous literary reviews of Tolstoy are those by Atanas Badev (Prilep), Dimitar Rizov (Bitola) and Marko Grigorov (Tresonche, Debar Area). Tolstoy’s works were published by the printing houses of Hariton Genadiev (Bitola) and Spiro Gulapchev (Lerin).
