Abstract

The introduction of potatoe cultivation in the ancient Country of Nice. Certain points of reference. Officially, Parmentier promoted potatoe farming in France in 1788. In the present article, the author shows that potatoes were intensively cultivated in the department of the Maritime Alps, since farmers had to declare their annual crops. Such was the case of montainous village of Saint-Léger, Sauze and La Croix-sur-Roudoule. In 1794, potatoes were in common use in the Civil Hospital of Utelle (Maritime Alps), and, in 1813, in the Children's Home of La Providence in Nice.
