Abstract

The two experiments reported here examine the influence of the emotional positive valence of words on both free recall (Experiment 1) and recognition memory performance (Experiment 2) in 7- and 9-year-old children. In these experiments, we observed a facilitation effect for positive words on children memory at both 7 and 9. This facilitation effect was found in both memory tasks. These findings add new evidence to the experimental study of the influence of emotion on children memory and are discussed in relation to current semantic explanations of the emotional enhancement of memory.
