Abstract

This is a summary of a participatory research project conducted with homeless men around objects from an educational museum collection in social history.Through experimentation with adapted research techniques, this project identified the participants’ historical knowledge, narratives and analyses and improved our collective understanding of these objects. By juxtaposing situations that occurred during the workshops and the theoretical and practical issues encountered, this project illustrates the potential that this type of approach offers to promote the appropriation of history and the democratization of historiographic practice.
