Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the origins and main characteristics of historiography in the nineteenth century in Brazil concerning the relationships existing between paradigms of Classicism and modern paradigms. In particular, we shall examine the parallels established between different ways of writing history, the search for the scientific legitimacy of historical knowledge and the emergence of national history.Key wordsHistorical writings, historiography, Ancient, Modern, nineteenth century.RésuméCet article a pour but de mettre au jour les origines et principales caractéristiques de l'historiographie brésilienne du XIXe siècle, en ce qui concerne les rapports entre les paradigmes de l'historiographie classique et les paradigmes modernes.
