Abstract

A kyanite-bearing eclogite from the pre-Alpine basement of the Southern Carpathians (Leaota Mountains, Romania) shows a complete prograde metamorphic evolution, reaching pressures in excess of 20 kbar, followed by a retrograde path with decreasing pressure and temperature. It brings new evidence that this pre-Alpine basement constitutes a continental collision belt, probably of Variscan age.
