Abstract
The following methods for the determination of crater depths have been tested in the case of local and thin film analysis by spark and laser mass spectroscopy: stylus technique, refocussing of optical microscope, optical interference microscopy, oblique observation by a scanning electron microscope in connection with contamination lines or with ion beam slope cutting, weighing technique, determination of the concentration of a “monitoring” element having a well known depth profile.
