Abstract
The question of control in social relations provokes a great deal of extreme emotions. However, its proper understanding and use is important in the perspective of establishing the right social order. Nevertheless, such control cannot restrict the functioning of entities in social life to the utmost degree possible, or it will limit and inhibit rather than properly stimulate and guide development. Social relationships must be based on trust enhanced by appropriate use of control instruments. Control in food industry is of particular importance here as food production directly affects the life and health of consumers. In Poland, there are many institutions involved in official food control whose actions, however, are not fully coordinated and require improvement. It is important, in particular, to strengthen the authority of those institutions and increase their focus on educational activities, at the same time creating appropriate food culture in the society, which would result in more effective cooperation with consumers in the control process and foster positive social bonds.
