Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The study aims to describe the knowledge and practice of tuberculosis prevention among family members of pulmonary tuberculosis patients being treated at Da Nang Lung Hospital in 2023 and some associated factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 168 family members of pulmonary tuberculosis patients being treated at Da Nang Lung Hospital. The study was conducted from October 2022 to July 2023. Data were collected by direct interview through a set of questions, including general information, knowledge about tuberculosis prevention, and practices about disease prevention for tuberculosis. Results: 72% of family members of tuberculosis patients have general knowledge about tuberculosis prevention. The proportion of subjects with good practice in tuberculosis prevention is only average (54.8%). Tuberculosis prevention knowledge of tuberculosis patients' family members is related to education level and personal income. Tuberculosis prevention practices are related to educational and occupational levels. Conclude: The proportion of patient's family members with knowledge and practice of tuberculosis prevention is not high, so it is necessary to focus on communicating the content with low success rates such as suspected TB symptoms, high-risk individuals, TB screening, instructing others to prevent the disease... and special attention to target groups with high school education or less, groups with low income, occupations such as farming, trading, unskilled labor...
