Abstract

95% of people worldwide are affected by the infectious illness known as caries, or cavities. Dental caries is caused by the Streptococcus mutans bacteria found in plaque, which breaks down tooth enamel (often referred to as the demineralization process). Identify the association between oral health awareness and dental caries status in SD Negeri 1 Purwawinangun third graders. Methods: This study employs the method of observation along with an analytical style of research. utilizing the Slovin formula to sample. 25 third-grade SDN 1 Purwawinangun pupils from the Cirebon region served as the research participants. Results: A p-value of 0.017 was achieved using the Spearman rank test to determine the dental and oral hygiene status. Conclusion: In grade 3 students at SDN 1 Purwawinangun, Kecamatan Suranenggala, Kabupaten Cirebon, the DMF-T index was found in the very low category of 4 people (16%), low 15 people (56%), and moderate 6 people (24%). Knowledge of dental and oral hygiene affects the status of dental and oral hygiene with dental caries.
